Legal research: status and jurisdictions

Legal research across approved sources is a planned capability. It will be released per jurisdiction after verification, starting with England & Wales. Nothing in LexSalim today is a statement of the law.

Early access

The LexSalim application is opening in stages and is not yet available for public sign-in. This article describes how the workspace is designed to work for early-access members; wording and screens may change before general release.

Status: planned

Legal research is not available in LexSalim today. The product pages and this help centre label it Planned, and no date is published. This article explains what is being built so that you can judge whether to wait for it.

What is being built

  • Approved sources only. Legislation, case law and official guidance used under their permitted terms. No scraping of unlicensed sources.
  • Research agents that read, index and summarise new material from those sources on a schedule.
  • Verification. Every citation is checked against the original text. Unverifiable items are flagged and never published to the library.
  • A knowledge library per jurisdiction, versioned, with provenance for every entry.
  • Case research. Your Case Agent draws on the library when you ask and cites it alongside your documents, so you can see which statements come from your evidence and which from the library.

Jurisdictions

Release is per jurisdiction, after verification:

  1. England & Wales first.
  2. Other UK jurisdictions, the United States (federal and state scope to be defined) and Canada (federal and provincial, including Quebec) to follow.

A jurisdiction is marked available only when its pack has passed verification. Availability is never assumed to cover everything, and the application tells you which jurisdiction packs a case can use.

What this means today

  • The Case Agent works from the documents in your case and general language ability. It has no library of law and will tell you when a statement cannot be supported from your documents.
  • Do not treat any output as a statement of the law in any country.
  • Research you do elsewhere can be uploaded into the case as documents, and the agent will then reference it like any other source.

When legal research is released for a jurisdiction, this article, the product page and the FAQ are updated in the same release.
