Opening an accounting case

An accounting case is one engagement or one period: set the scope and deadlines, add the documents, and let the Case Agent organise them into reviewable working papers.

Early access

The LexSalim application is opening in stages and is not yet available for public sign-in. This article describes how the workspace is designed to work for early-access members; wording and screens may change before general release.

Accountant AI uses the same case model as Legal AI. The difference is what a case represents: an engagement (for example year-end accounts for a client) or a period (a quarter's bookkeeping, a VAT quarter).

Steps

  1. Choose New case and then Accounting.
  2. Pick a template, for example a bookkeeping period or an accounts preparation engagement.
  3. Enter the title, the client or entity, and the period the case covers.
  4. Set the jurisdiction. Tax-specific assistance (UK VAT first) is planned and is not yet available, so today the jurisdiction labels the case and shapes dates and currency.
  5. Set deadlines for the engagement. They appear on the timeline and produce reminders once confirmed.
  6. Add members: the colleagues and, if you wish, the client who should see this case.
  7. Create the case.

Adding the records

Upload bank statements, ledgers and exports, invoices and receipts, whether PDFs, scans or images. Files are scanned for malware and encrypted on arrival. Scanned pages are converted to searchable text with page references preserved, so a receipt photographed on a phone can still be read by the agent. See Supported file types and scanning.

What the Case Agent does in an accounting case

When you ask, it:

  • extracts totals, dates, parties, categories and tax amounts from invoices and receipts, each with a page reference;
  • groups documents and transactions by period and flags gaps and duplicates;
  • prepares draft summaries, schedules and exception lists for review.

Every figure it extracts is a proposal until a person confirms it. The agent does not post entries to an accounting system, file returns or give tax advice.

Approvals

Working papers can be marked as reviewed by a member of the case, and the approval is recorded on the timeline. Practices can use this as a simple two-person check: one person prepares, another approves.
